Safrane bi-turbo engine conversion to fit customers GTA.

Started off by fabricating the tubular manifold. Using 10mm laser cut flanges throughout.

Cutting the exhaust tubing to construct the 3 into 1 merged collectors.

Collector finished with turbo flange.

One side finished.

Both sides finished now and off to be ceramic coated inside and out along with the exhaust housings..

Nice project :-) keep it coming, it's great I have a bi-turbo project to complete and this will kick me up the butt ;-)

Did you buy that Hartige engine from Ebay in the end? :-)
... A diamond is only a piece of coal that did well under pressure... PRV afflicted, may be I need to squeeze harder!!!!

Yes its one of the Hartge engines, Stephen has had it sitting around since getting it off Andy. Good to see it put to use.

Unfortunately its not just a straight swap, lots to be fabricated and changes made to engine mount plate, sump etc.

The turbos will be positioned in the large voids behind the inner wings.

What else are you going to be doing to the car to go along with this, it's a red GTA isn't it?

Hey Martin, the engine will be running on Adaptronic management. Going distributorless.

Hidden bracket! You know me better than that, I use 'the force' when mocking up my exhaust manifolds..

The engine belongs to Mr Miles, lots of uprating going on throughout the car. Im mainly dealing with the engine conversion and related upgrades.

BTW where did you go in the end to get the headers ceramic coated? Can they do the inside as well as the outside, and roughly how much did it cost? I have some mild steel headers for another application and was thinking of possibly using them for turbo use if they were suitably protected from the extreme thermal stress.

Do you have any pictures of the valve springs / setup and spring caps on this engine by any chance?

Hi Martin,

The headers and some turbo components have been coated by Cam Coat, it worked out at £380.00 including vat thats inside and out. The finish is good but it was quite a long turnaround, about 4 weeks.

I'll send you some pics of the valve springs etc or pop over have a look if you got a spare evening.

Little update as to how the project is progressing.

The sump, windage tray, oil pickup and sandwich plate need removing and are being replaced by new/reconditioned GTA turbo parts.

New, rare as hens teeth A610 inlet manifold is going to be used with 440cc injectors and single throttle body.

These -10JIC fittings are tig welded to both sides of the sump and act as oil drain returns for the turbos. Just needs vapour blasting and its ready for buttoning up.

Parts back from the ceramic coaters, trial fitting the turbo oil feeds, all fits well so far. Next on the agenda is fabricating the boost pipes and twin chargecooler setup.
