Clutch

Postby paulrob100 » Wed Jul 20, 2016 5:14 pm

I took my GTA out for a run today. I was keen to see hot hot it got in this weather. The temp gauge certainly went higher than normal when in town, but it soon returned to normal when on an open road.

However as the engine got hotter, the clutch pedal needed to be pressed further before the clutch released. Is this normal ? Eventually it became difficult to change gear cleanly & impossible to get into reverse. After i left the car switched off for 30 mins or so it returned to normal.

I bled the system recently with Dot4 fluid. Any suggestions ?

Thanks, Paul.

Try a high temp DOT 4.They do suffer as the slave sits right under the turbo .Probably running the original slave and clutch on that car also but try that first .If it's just when it very hot then shouldn't be a major problem .

Thanks Lee

I`ll try that. When i was in France last year I bought a slave cylinder rebuild kit, but it looks an absolute pig to get at, so I haven't fitted it. Theres no leaks, so I`m not sure it would be any better. You are probably right that its still original. Interestingly in all the paperwork that came with the car, theres an invoice for a new clutch master cylinder, so it might have had issues in the past

Turbo off to do it and it hurts your back more than being a difficult job ...apart from the rear bolt on the turbo drain which can be a 'walk away and have a roll up' type thing ;)
