SITE SECURITY UPDATE

Postby SuperSean » Sun Oct 14, 2018 7:33 pm

Today, I have activated SSL security on the forums.

This means that traffic travelling over the internet between the server and your computer are now encrypted with the same level of security your online banking uses.

This update should be seamless for most users, however tapatalk users and users of older browsers may find that they need to update their bookmarks and saved logins.

If you have any problems or question, please let us know.

My browser is Google Chrome, and my OS is Microsoft Windows 10 ........... both of these have the latest updates installed.
You may be interested to note that once I clicked on to "Reply with Quote", the portal opens up, and the "i" in the address bar is replaced with the closed padlock .......... the moment I return to the Forum, the padlock is replaced with the "i" once more.
I hope this observation helps.

Hi all,

This is happening because some elements of the web page are still being served over insecure "http" connection rather than "https". You'll only see the padlock in your web browser when everything on the web page is served over "https".

Having had a very brief look, there are a few assets on the forum homepage such as the following Google fonts and images which are still being served over "http":

http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Anton
http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Oswald
http://www.renaultalpine.co.uk/images/AlpineParts.gif

There may well be others too. Swapping the URLs to "https" will resolve the issue.

Photos hosted externally on sites like Photobucket may also cause an issue if they're served over plain "http" but you may be able to adjust the forum or web server settings to force everything to be served over "https".

Hope this helps,

Phil
